Hi Everyone -

I have permits for the MR in mid may. In order to bypass the rockfall on the road (which I understand may not be cleared by then) looks like I'll have to take the recreation trail to the portal from the lone pine camp grounds.

Just curious about the condition of that trail. Is it fairly easy to navigate with headlamps? I see that it's ~2700 feet of elevation over 4 miles... we're trying to camp at iceberg lake so we'll have to get a very early start

Thanks in advance for any beta you might have.

T

Hi T,

Check the NRT on the map posted on the Road Damage thread. Switch the map to satellite view (option in the upper right corner), and you can see that if you park at the gate, you can access the NRT from there pretty easily.

By mid-May, we should know how well the slide clearing process is moving along. You an always hope it would be cleared by then.

I agree with Steve. However, keep in mind that the trail is north facing. Snow may linger longer there, if a heavy snow year, and also there is a stream crossing out of Meysan Lakes.

It's been years since I have taken that trail so maybe someone with more current knowledge of the stream crossing can add their opinion.
