John Dittli posted a bunch of pictures on Facebook from his recent winter snow survey trip.
Link to his picture album.   Says he was out for 12 days!!

Here's a picture of Mt Whitney from the west.

Every time he posts something I realize I get this intense feeling of jealousy...

Definitely. But to be out for 12 days like that, they could only do it by having cabins available and (I assume) food caches in the cabins as well. It would be incredibly difficult to be out for 12 days in freezing weather without a place to stop and warm up and dry out.

Not Whitney, but some pics from my Yosemite Badger Pass to Glacier Point 3 day backpack trip at the beginning of March.

Clarks Range at Sunset (1st night camp):

Half Dome from the tip of Glacier Point (note the lack of visible railings smile ):

Yosemite Falls from the tip of Glacier Point:

Glacier Point Ski Hut (aka the grill/store):

Sunset and sunrise from near Sentinel Dome (2nd night camp):

Outstanding! Did you x-c ski out, or use snowshoes?

I skied out once and spent the night on the floor of the Geology Exhibit shelter.

Snowshoes.

I actually expected to be out 4 days, but a storm due Sunday gradually got worse and worse in the forecast (started as snow furies and gradually became a major (but short) storm), so I had to make a fast return to Badger Pass from my 2nd night's camp near Sentinel Dome. Thankfully it was mostly downhill.

A couple more "Winter" pictures.

I was in Yosemite Park last Thursday/Friday/Sat. AM, and found little snow. Of course I was in the valley so nothing like Jim's adventure.

The first shot is from approx. 2 miles up the 4 mile trail. I was this high before encountering any snow.

Second shot is from the tunnel, looking into the valley.

Temp in the valley both days was 70F.
