Great pictures, and amazing comparison between last winter and today from space. Now I need to figure out how to pull off a trip in April...

"Some of the snowdrifts have faces of 25 to 40 feet"

Interesting article, but its not from space, its from a fixed wing observatory. I.e. a plane at maybe 20,000 feet. And its results are not significantly different from the data compiled on the ground. Compare the curves in the article to the graph

Here

And just for grins, go to the Cal site and check a reference year you are familiar with - I highly recommend 2010-2011 - and see how this year compares.

Wherever you go, there you are.

Mammoth Weather Dweebs declare it official: Mammoth Pass snow water content 1969 April 1st record broken - at least 88" of water, while the record was 86.5.

"the Great Winter of 2017…the biggest water year through April 1st in at least 77 years."

It will be a good year for crampons, ice axes, gaiters, snowseal, snow baskets, glacier glasses and water crossing shoes.

Whoa! I heard a radio station news item talking about the Tulare Lake basin filling with water again. That, connected with massive subsidence due to ground-water pumping (2 feet in some areas), puts entire areas in danger.

This will be a slow-moving disaster if water levels rise enough.

and another very wet and unusual storm on the way this weekend. The Dweebs at mammothweather.com are predicting 5" of water on Mammoth Pass, giving that snow pack total a nice bump again:

"Everything on track for an exceptional precipitation event"

http://mammothweather.com/2017/04/04/maj...-a-week-to-two/

and some select data from the Yosemite/Mammoth corridor
