Posted this on Facebook Mount Whitney Group, Will also do it here.

Chute ascend and chute descend, although my descend wasn't really as smooth, I tend to think I caused that smile (wear a glove smile )
Videos should tell you how the conditions were. Chute is quite slushy so be careful and it's really deep I don't think we're gonna see it completely gone even by the end of August. Do not attempt it without crampons and ice axe, unless you're a pro of course.

Start 4am finish 6pm.
My Strava prolly lost its mind with its 28 miles tracking, so I trust Garmin's tracking.

I love your Strava map! That's hilarious. Definitely the Garmin for accuracy. Thanks for posting. I head up next week.

Cheers!

Actually, Chad, Garmin GPSs do that too. Notice how smooth things are at the summit, compared to Trail Camp. That's because gps technology depends on lots of satellites being in view, and if you are in a valley with high mountains around, gps accuracy is terrible.

I tried to map a course on the North Fork Line Pine Creek -- the Mountaineers Route approach, and the track looked like his route between Trail Camp and Trail Crest.

Hi Steve,

I meant of the two maps posted, the Garmin was more accurate. GPS's can get a bit squirrelly. I know how inacurate my Garmin can be. My last R2R2R trip had me clocking one minute miles in places or walking off cliffs on Bright Angel.

I'll try both my phone and Garmin next week for comparison.

Cheers!
Chad

vknyvz,

Can you give some details about your glissade down? You keep stoping and readjusting. Did you learn anything from the experience?
