Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Whitney/Yosemite

I have my Whitney permit for August 2 and the plan is to spend one night at Trail Camp, summit, back to Trail Camp and head down on August 4th. After which we plan on heading to Yosemite to do Half Dome and several others. We did this same trip a couple of years ago and it was awesome.
My question is, how severe are the fires in Yosemite? I live in Michigan and have been reading that it's quite intense out there but are these fires affecting many of the trails out there or are they just in Mariposa. I know they can spread wherever but was hoping that someone could give me some info that's possibly a bit more specific than what I'm reading online.

The Detwier Fire is pretty big, but to the west. It's not likely to spread directly into the park from where it is (but it's pretty big already, so anything is possible), but you can't get into the park on Hwy 140 (coming from Whitney, you'd take Hwy 120 Tioga Road anyway).

I'd be surprised if you don't have some smoke and haze in Yosemite due to the fire.

Here are pictures from Cathedral Pk today. The smoke was there, but not terrible. CP is near Tuolumne Meadows.
