On the JMT FB page there was thread about a over due Japanese hike. She was last seen NB on one of the passes either Glenn or farther up the PCT. That was around 7/7. HAs anyone heard the same or more?

This was posted on Reddit 11 hours ago, so it sounds like she is still possibly missing: https://www.reddit.com/r/PacificCrestTrail/comments/6p6nm8/pct_hiker_missing_north_of_glen_pass/

Is anyone familiar with the "detour" route to avoid crossing Mono Creek? Apparently, the missing PCT hiker Rika Morita was considering taking that detour and I want to know exactly where it goes. Attached is a map of the area. The pink line is PCT/JMT. If you have hiked it or know the exact route, please let me know.

I've been following this on several other sites. I'm doing a dayhike over Glen in a couple days and I'll keep an eye out. Hoping for the best for all involved...............................................DUG

If you are northbound on the JMT and need to avoid the several difficult Mono Creek crossings, the detour is to swing out west toward VVR, then turn north and go over Goodale Pass. Soon that intersects with the JMT so that you can continue north.

The detour is about 5-8 miles longer, but there are no difficult crossings. There could be a steep snow pile on the north side of Goodale Pass. If a hiker missed a step there, it could be all over.

I dropped friends off at VVR last year so they could continue with their JMT section hike. I stayed with them for the first day (1/2 day hiking) and until lunch time on day two after we went over Silver Pass. I took the left turn towards Goodale to head back to my truck and promptly got lost in snow on top of the pass. During a light snow year. I can only imagine that it could be a lot worse this year.......................................DUG

Rika has been found. Unfortunately it appears that she didn't make it. I have no further details at this time. Such a wonderful spirit. Requiescat in pace, Strawberry.
