Last night and this morning we received the first high country snow of the season. Snow level is at about 10,000 feet, but should recede under sunny skies.

Tioga and Sonora passes are currently closed due to snow.

Be ready.

very light dusting plus ice glaze on the trail above 13,000 last week. Anyway you look at it, the third week in Sept usually ushers this stuff in. Right on time.

My first visit to Whitney was August of 1964. Wish I still had Bernie Clayton's b&w prints from that trip, but here was Tioga Pass on that date:

Well, I had planned a trip to Cathedral Peak on Sunday, but cancelled it due to potential snow where the third-class starts.
