Extrapolating from the current season to date snowfall (or lack thereof), any predictions for when the higher slopes will be mostly snow free this year?

Unless the weather makes a miraculous turn-around, we're in for another dry year.

Looking back at the past dry winter/springs (2012-2015), Tioga Pass in Yosemite opened May 2 - 11. In those years, people began using the switchbacks about a month later. By 6 weeks later, the switchbacks were the only way to go.

As of Feb. 1st, state-wide snow survey is just 24% of the Feb. 1st average. The Eastern Sierra snow courses contain about 5 inches of water equivalent, which translates to a 34% snow pack in the local mountains, putting current snow levels just above the driest year on record - 2014 - 2015.

Snow surveyors are having to carry their skis over some passes, because there isn't ski-able snow.
