Hello guys,

I would like to go down the JMT after visiting Mt Whitney at the end of June. I was thinking about going towards the Crabtree Lakes from the Crabtree ranger station. Does anyone know the conditions of that trail? Caltopo shows a proper trail to the lakes, but I cannot confirm in any other map.
Thanks!

I hiked down that trail in 2016, and it was pretty easy to follow most places, especially between the wet meadow (western end) and almost to the lower Crabtree Lk. You won't find it in the wet meadow, though. Once it heads west from the wet area, it is a good trail. I couldn't find it at the west end of the Lower lake, but you can make your way in the general direction and you are sure to hit it again. It disappears again on bare granite on the hump before the middle lake.

The middle lake has an outstanding sandy beach.

Thanks for the information Steve! This is exactly what I was looking for.

I saw the sandy beach on the northern part of the middle lake in a satellite photo. It looks really pretty- I may spend the night there.

Thanks again!
