My wife got called in to do overtime Saturday. Bummer for her, but yippie for me! Taking the boy to San J via the Marion Mountain Trail. Good ole make you wanna puke father son fun.

On the 27th is the rescheduled practice hike for Whitney. Team Snail is planning on San J via South Ridge/Tahquitz Peak. Good long day. Plenty of headlamp time with a friendly 0200 start.

July 2nd we have permits for Whitney. IF and ONLY if I get reports that we can get up it without crampons we'll go. If I deem it unsafe we will wave off to Yosemite for the Half Dome/Cloud's Rest combo. Because of the new cable permit crap if we divert to Yosemite we will go up the night of the 30th and hike early on the 1st. We would tag Half Dome 1st and then do as much of Cloud's Rest as possible.

Anyone else hiking??...............................DUG

DUG, you'll beat me to Yosemite by about a week or so. Won't be on the trails there till the 10th. Wish I could. Have a great hike with the snails!

Bulldog - Yosemite is the back up plan. I hope we DON'T end up there. If BobR is correct, we will be going up the MT on Whitney instead. WAITING sux! I'm just waiting to hear the first reports of the herd stomping past the cables. Hopefully by this weekend. I want no part of the chute or any glisading. Just wanna hike up and down the MT safely.........................DUG

Amen and ditto - I prefer my hiking surfaces dry and with traction. Hopefully the cables will be OK for Joe and I on the 15th/16th.

Isn't an ice axe that thing you use to chip block ice for drinks?

Have a great hike!
