Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Released 7 overnight permits for August 5-7.

I just cancelled our trip for August 5-7. We had one reservation for 6 people and another reservation for 1 person.

LoisW: Thank you! I sure wish more people would cancel their unused/unneeded slots. More people could pick them up and plan a trip.

Here's the link to recreation.gov. Those slots will show up in the next 24 hours at a random time.

We've had 2 cancel in our group for August 7th. Do I just need to go in and reduce the group size on my permit to make those available? If so, I will post a message here before doing that.

If you reduce your group size when you pick up your permit, those don't show up online, since it is within the 24-hour pickup date of the permit.

But if you go online 3 or more days before the trip, on recreation.gov, and reduce your group size, then those slots will show up (at a random time within the next 24 hours) online for anyone else to reserve. Going online is certainly the best thing to do to help others pick up a reserved slot. Thank you!!
