I have a permit for July 10. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the chances of the switchbacks being open by that time. The Visitor's Center said they could be if we continue to get fair weather. I have done the main trail the past three years as a day hike but since we haven't had snow like this in a long time I am not sure what to expect. I am fine with a bit of snow and have used microspikes but not experienced enough to do the chute. Predictions? Can all that snow melt in a couple months?

Here's the post I'm maintaining:   When will Mt Whitney switchbacks open?
Compared to 2017, there is less snow, and in that year, July 14 was when hikers started using the switchbacks. Also, note that the Crabtree water content for April peaked at 60% of the 2017 level. Crabtree is just west of Mt Whitney.

I am pretty sure by July 10 this year, you will be ok to go on the switchbacks.
