So I have my first attempt coming up in mid-August (day hike), and as a longtime runner who knows that I need nipple guards for anything over 8 miles of running, I'm curious if anyone has problems with nipple chafing during 12-plus hours of hiking?

I'm guessing no just envisioning what causes nipple chafing (and I haven't had issues in 5-6 hour hikes). But I have the nip guards ready if so! laugh

Anyone experience chafing anywhere else?

Bicycle riders regularly use "butt butter".

If the nips start getting chafed, I use my chap stick.

I once got a bad case of chafing on my inner thigh, and had nothing to help it. ...I use synthetic athletic boxers now, and that helps. But on that trip, I begged an ace bandage off two ladies, and it was a trip-saver.

TMI warning... I used to have a lot of trouble with burning/itching in the back door area, to the point I was using a lotramin anti-fungal cream that helped most of the time. But regular use of that actually made the problem worse. So a visit to the doctor, and he explained what might be happening, and it turns out he was 'zactly right: When I hike, the steady bouncing can cause a tiny amount of stuff to exit, and that stuff can be really irritating. I found that stopping and doing a TP cleanup made all the itching and burning go away. (You were warned about the TMI).

make sure your pack is adjusted well. too tight across the chest and it can increase contact. too loose and you'll get more bouncing and friction. i like to keep my chest strap snug but not tight, and make sure my shirt underneath isn't getting bunched up or pulled tight against my chest, and i'm fine. the couple times i've had some minor chafing, some vaseline or moleskin fixes it (though if you have a hairy chest, moleskin might just be delaying the pain til later).

Creamy Desitin used before and after you need it. Ask any baby bottom.

Easy, just cut two small holes in your shirt.

Just kidding.

I wear a tighter UnderArmour type shirt and a technical fabric looser shirt over that. Cuts out most chaffing on the top half.

Can't believe nobody has made the relevant reference from The Office yet. Fortunately, I don't have the problem when hiking, but just as information, taping with cotton didn't help Andy. smile
