Hi

I have a day permit for this Saturday 1st June, I have been trying to keep an eye on conditions/trip reports to see what to expect. When I spoke to the permit office this afternoon they said to expect snow from about 1.5miles. Haven't heard any reports from people making it to the summit, so not expecting to be able to. Will go as far as I feel comfortable, enjoy the scenery and turn around when I need to. Would love to hear from anyone who has been up recently, especially with pics of what to expect.

What I would like to know, being from Australia, is what weather websites people would recommend looking at for forecasts. There are still plenty of permits available for the Sunday, if the weather looks like it will be better on Sunday than Saturday I might alter my plans and try for Sunday instead.

Will make sure I post some pics after the weekend.

Sunday looks a bit better weather wise (and I have permits for Sunday!). FYI, I saw some pics from a guy that summited via the MR today. There's a high pressure front that will finally move in next week but that's not going to help either of us. I usually check the National Weather Service and also mountain-forecast (links on this site) but I don't always trust their algorithm.

Yeah Sunday was looking slight better to me.
Which way are you heading up MR or MWMT? What time were you planning on leaving?
We might end up seeing each other up there!!!!

The NWS site is helpful, though be sure to look at the elevation for any given spot forecast (one can move the spot forecast around by clicking on the minimap).

The sidebar on the left has a link to a forecast for Mt Whitney weather. I always check two sites - NOAA and Mountain Forecast. Mountain Forecast gives you more specific information for different elevations. I find the actual weather to fall somewhere between the two. NOAA seems to forecast the worst possible forecast.
Does anyone know of a website that will show the actual weather for the past few days? I like the "3 Day History" on NOAA, as it tracks wind, temps, precip, and wind direction. But the NOAA Whitney page does not show that.
I think the weather later this week will favor an experienced mountaineer - so good luck to the climbers and post pics!!

We are going up the MR. Not sure yet on our start time. Which route are you taking?
