Mt Whitney Zone Forums Trip Reports 9/9 Successful Summit Report

Made Summit with my GF. 2nd time for me, first for her.

Great weather. Clear skies. Summit was chilly/cold but wore short sleeves most of the way til probably the switchbacks.

Trail conditions were great for the most part. Snow patch near summit has been reduced to about 10 yards or so I’d guess. Definitely a non issue. The cable section was dicey going up and especially coming down. Theres alot of ice there and it’s thick and slick. While most can be negotiated by going slow, being careful and taking advantage of the dry rocks to step on, there is a section of maybe 6ft or so where steppping on the ice is the only option. It is very easy to slip and fall here right now.

Was the wind bad like it was up on White Mountain Peak that day?

From Trail Crest to the Summit and then back down to an overnight stay at Trail camp it was all very windy. Switched from the hat to the beanie real quick as I nearly lost it up there with those wind gusts. Haha
