Leon, in spring, on the Main Trail between Trail Crest and the summit, and especially the short section between Trail Crest and the JMT junction, the trail is blasted out along a cliff. The bench created for the trail completely fills with steeply sloping snow, where to continue, you have to traverse that slope. A fall or slip would be fatal.
That is the Main Trail, not the Mountaineers Route. The MR can be almost as steep, but the route is wider, giving you choices of where to climb.
