Saw a video a few days ago of some rocks coming down near Lone Pine Lake and it got me a bit worried about hiking the main trial on the 7th of July. I wore a helmet on the MR last year and saw the value of it when someone above kick loose a few rocks in the last 400 feet after the notch. This is my first year doing the regular trail and have no idea how many sections are dangerous if some rocks were to come down. So the question is, would you bring a helmet for the main trail in light of the recent earthquakes?

What section of the trail is the most dangerous for loose rocks that could fall from someone dislodging them or from an earthquake?

I don't think you will encounter any areas with any danger. Having a rock hit you on that trail is probably about as likely as being hit by lightning -- always possible, but almost never occurs.

I saw a video some hikers took during/just after the earthquake, while on the final section between Trail Crest and the summit. They were awed by the rock fall going down a chute near Hitchcock lakes, but they didn't make any remarks about any local or nearby rocks falling.
