Hi my fellow hikers,

I am looking for people to hike Mt. Whitney on Tuesday, July 20 together. Two of my partners dropped out due to unforeseen events, leaving me the only one in the group. My wife won't let me hike alone, and I don't want to miss this opportunity because I have prepared for this hike for six months.

Even if you are not hiking on that day, you are welcome to give me suggestions.

Regards,
Ronald Mao

You are never alone on the Main Mt. Whitney Trail. There are 100 day permits and 60 overnight permits daily. There can be up to 200 people between the TH and the summit.Plus there are Rangers in the Whitney Zone. So tell your wife that there are many people to hike with. This is a high traffic trail so you won't ever be alone.People go up and down the trail 24/7 this time of the year.Seriously there will be people on the trail literally all day and all night. As wbtravis says the Mt. Whitney Main Trail is not a "wilderness experience". You will be in the company of many.Go for it.Permits are hard to obtain and as you said you have prepared for 6 months. The time to go is now!!!! It is an amazing experience but you won't be alone.

Hi Rod,

Your valuable opinion is very much appreciated. My wife feels much more comfortable to let me go. I will pack my stuff on Sunday and drive to Lone Pine on early Monday morning from San Diego. Very excited to be able to continue. Thank you for keeping my plan alive!

Ronald

Ronald, spending less than 24 hours at altitude before your hike sets you up for altitude problems. Going up Sunday and spending the night plus all day Monday would be better acclimatization.

Read about the altitude issues in the Orientation Notes (above on the left).

Good luck!!!

Rod and Steve:

I did it! The hike was extremely hard, but the view was spectacular beyond word at the summit. I am so happy I did it!

Thank again!

Ronald

Congratulations Ronald! That feeling on the summit makes it all well worth the effort, huh?

What a great trip report, Ronald. Congratulations again on your hike. I am sure your training for the Marathon in March helped you accomplish this hike, too.

...I hope you don't mind, I edited your subsequent post so the pictures would appear within the post. I love that sunrise picture.
