Isn't "monocular binocular" an oxymoron?

I once thought it would be great to carry binoculars for backpacking. But after carrying them several trips, I found I just didn't use them. They were a nice compact and lightweight pair, too.

Hope you find a monocular that works.

A monocular is easy. You can make one by yourself.

You just need a pair of binoculars and a hacksaw.

The bonus is you get one for a friend!

I thought a monocular would be nice to have at times, so I did some research last year and bought a Carson 7 x 32. Optics and field of vision are okay, but it's definitely not the same as a pair of binoculars. It's hard to locate and zero in on your point of interest, and it just doesn't give you nearly as good a view.

I did the same thing a few years ago - invested about $180 in a lighweight, compact set of binocs for my pack. May have used them once in all that time. They've been collecting dust on the shelf for about 3 years.
