Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Found: Kelty backpack at Portal

A group of us climbed Whitney on Sunday, August 8th. Somehow a Kelty daypack ended up in my car and I just discovered it after getting home and unpacking. I have asked everyone in our group and nobody seems to know whose it is or how it got into my car. I am trying to find the right owner.

There was no identification of any kind and the contents included: lunch bag marked "K - Lunch and Dinner", pink contact lens case, prescription glasses, purple jacket, pink headband, miscellaneous hiking food.

If anyone knows whose this is or how I might find its rightful owner, please email me at mad_hiker@yahoo.com. If this really was someone's pack at the trailhead, I feel absolutely horrible about this situation. I have a photo of the pack and contents, but I am not sure how to post. Thank you.

Maybe Mumma Bear put it in there...just joking considering the amount of bear activity this time of year.

Your car may have been the same make and model as the other and that the person was so dang tired that after a long dayhike...

What color is the pack?

Try to find a unique feature on the pack...

If someone claims the pack, ask what the special feature is on the pack...

Madhiker, can you tell from the glasses if they are for a man or a woman? ...Oh, um, pink headband... guess I didn't read the details.

Also, I suggest you call the Visitor Center in Lone Pine ( 760 - 876-6222 ) where you picked up the permits and notify them. The person missing the pack may call them and inquire.

The backpack and the owner have been matched up! I contacted the Mount Whitney Ranger Station and gave them the information. They contacted the Whitney Portal Store. Turns out the backpack owner had contacted the store and the match was made. Backpack will be mailed to owner and everything is good again. Thanks for the help.

The good things that people do to go out of their way...above and beyond the call...I like reading things that have happy endings.
