Hi, Mike.
I'll be on the mountain just a couple of days after you. My party (4) is taking the Mountaineer's Route; camping at Iceberg Lake on 9/29; summitting on 9/30 & camping that night at Iceberg again. Going with my hiking pal, my son (a professional rock climbing guide who has guided Mt. Whitney 2x before), and his fiancee. We have been talking about this trip for a year & made the commitment to do it last January; we've been training HARD ever since. We'll be acclimating in Mammoth Lakes for a few days before we set out and doing a couple of training hikes with rope work (my son's precaution & promise to his dad that he'd bring me back in one piece!). We're very confident but the weather is our chief worry, and I must confess I'm fretting about gear, base layers, etc. These posts are VERY helpful & heartening.

Good luck on your summit day!
