Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Anyone have an extra spot for Sept 4th or 5th, 2010

Looking for a day hike permit for myself for Sept 5th, or an overnight one for Sept 4th.

Last year (2009), my friend and I got to 1 mile from the summit at 2 pm. Considering that it was late, we turned back. This was over the first weekend in Oct when the temperature dropped into the 20s and the wind was very strong. We had the right clothing and gloves, hence we made as far as we did.

The weather over Labor Day weekend looks very nice, hence I would like to try again. Have done several winter and summer backpacking trips this year, hence am in good shape.

Thanks for your suggestion. I called today around noon and was able to secure a permit for myself. At the time of calling, they had exactly 1 cancellation for Sunday day hike which worked for me.
