I don't understand why Wagbags aren't required for all trails. For example, take San Gorgonio, requirements for this trail is simply that hikers must carry a trowel or be fined. When I'm in Yosemite, I have not read requirements for either a Wagbag or a Trowel. I love Yosemite and I can't understand why Wagbags aren't required here for all hikers.

The short answer: biology.

I'll leave it at that.

I think it is just areas like the Whitney Zone and San Gorgonio that they make the rules more strict. In most areas like Yosemite, there is plenty of forest soil where people can properly bury their waste.

There was a thread some time back about using a stick to stir the waste to mix the TP in with it.

It doesn't take too long for the waste to biodegrade. Proper burial seems to work well enough.

Found the thread: Human Waste Disposal in Backcountry:How to pee/poop in woods
...Just remember the term "shit soup".

I did San Gorgonio and I didn't know I needed a trowel. Rocks, sticks and my boots work well enough for me to dig a hole.

It may be illegal but I stick by my method I said in some old thread, dig a hole, go in it and throw the TP in it, burn it up then cover it up.

I greatly support the use of pit toilets in the back country but wait, that means our tax dollars might actually be used for a service we need. Can't have that lol.

The Solution to Pollution is Dilution (digging a hole here and there)

Hard to dilute the stuff on crowded trails, over-filled camp area, and rocky places like Trail Camp. Other places it works fine.

Maybe they should just drill a hole at trail camp back down to sea level that everyone can go in. =P

Thanks everyone. I'll read the article Bee posted many moons ago. I love RoguePhotonic's comments regarding our tax dollars actualy being used for something we need, heaven forbid the politicians would actually do anything sensible like that (you made me laugh).
