Mt Whitney Zone Forums Trip Reports first timer conquers mount whitney 10/4/10!

my friends and i decided to try summiting mount whitney before the weather made it impossible, so we targeted monday, october 4 as our date.

we started our journey at 4:20am, arrived at the summit at 1:10pm and made it back to whitney portal at 8:00pm. the conditions on top were difficult, but we snuck in just before the weather took a turn for the worse.

it was an exhilarating and exhausting trip, but one i will never forget! if anybody is interested, i kept a photo journal of the day:

That was a GREAT trip report and gets me very excited for this sunday, 10/10/10. I completely agree with Steve, TIRED just doesn't say enough. I literally just laughed out loud when I saw the picture. Perfect end to what sounds like a wonderful trip.

Great trip report and awesome pictures. It's a good thing I knew the ending before I started reading and seeing your photos, because all those clouds were making me a bit nervous. I'm not sure I would have kept going to the summit, I probably would have chickened out for fear of even worse weather at the top. Congratulations!
