Hello all! We have overnight permits to hike and sleep on whitney for 10/16/10. we are hoping to find someone with cancelled reservations for 10/15/10 so we can make this a 2 night hike! there are 3 of us total.

we have 3 extra permits for 10/16/10 that we are willing to trade for overnight permits for 10/15/10. again, we need 3 total.

Permit reservations are not transferable, but you have a good chance of picking up some cancellations if you call the Inyo NF Wilderness Permit office (it may take several attempts). You also have a good chance of getting a no-show permit if you show up early at the Visitors Center.

Are you saying that your return date is fixed so you can only add one day at the beginning? (Overnight Permits can be used for trips up to 14 days; only the entry date is critical).

Randall, there should be plenty of no-shows and cancellations this late in the year, even on a Friday.

Just show up when the no-shows are declared (11 AM), and you will most likely get what you want. They may even have them throughout the rest of the day as well.

But since you already have paid the $15 for the reservations, if you call on the 13th (and maybe even the 14th) they can change your reservations to the 15th if there any phoned in cancellations available. I think switching dates will cost you $10.
