Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Hikers rescued in Yosemite National Park

Story here.

i like reading about rescued hikers, because there's always something to learn from it.

i think it does a disservice to the public when the who, what, where, when, and why of reporting is incomplete.

i learned that two nameless men - they got that part right by looking at the photos - set off some type of gps, for some unknown reason, in order to get a free ride out of the back country.

medical emergency? thirsty? lack of clothing?

why were the men apart from each other?

did they know each other or was it a lucky two-for-one extrication?

Yes, the rest of the story is really missing there...

Saw that on the Fresno channel news and read it in the Fresno Bee.The lack of information made me instantly think someone got tired and pushed the mommy button.Don't have any information to base that on except for the lack of information regarding any emergency.

Go right ahead I got it from George one of the local Park Rangers who posts here on occasion.

They were found near Joe Crane Lake. This is just south of Yosemite in the Sierra National Forest Bass Lake ranger district. I've worked in that area as a volunteer ranger. Pretty desolate and remote.

I agree that it is a bit of a disservice to omit relevant details...why report it at all, if one omits the info that makes it a story?

Looks like it is accessible via Clover Meadow off Beasore Road out of Bass Lake. It's a long drive into that trail head!

Post Peak Pass, is, indeed, magnificent. There are some interesting cross-country routes down from there, to lakes that are never visited.

Beasore road is the most frequently traveled way, but definely not the best. Much better is the road from North Fork, Minarets Road, that comes into Beasore a mile or two before Clover Meadow. Paved nearly all the way to the intersection, whereas Beasore is mostly not paved. Plus, it has magnificent views, all the way to the backside of Mammoth, and into the Florence Lake area. The road is longer, but about the same time, and much less dusty.
