I'm going to start this one as a pre-trip report....and if it doesn't snow too much in the next couple of weeks it will become a reality.

I grew up in Lake Tahoe and somehow managed to never climb Mt Tallac. So, big family turkey dinner up in Tahoe and my brother and I are planning on climbing Tallac the day after Thanksgiving. Also hoping to bring his 18yo son and my 11yo son.

Fun Facts:
Elevation - 9735'
Elevation Gain - 3500'

We are going to take the Mt Tallac (Cathedral Lake) Trail - 4.99mi.

Hoping that there is a register up there so my son can sign his first register.

I guess we'll be bringing turkey sandwiches up for fuel.

Tom, have a blast! It's that time of year when the High Sierra trip reports slow down tremendously (except for the relatively few ice beasts who revel in this time of year), so many of us wind up posting TRs well off the Whitney beaten path to get us through the winter. Look forward to yours and hope your son gets that register.

Wow, that sounds like fun. Heck, I'm sure I can speak for Bulldog when I say, we would love to be up in Tahoe with our families, even if we just sat on a couch and digested!

If you're in Tahoe City, check out my gallery up there, James Harold Galleries.

Hey Gary,
My son doesn't have quite the enthusiasm for the hike that I do, however his choice is to hang out with my crazy sisters, crazy mother AND crazy step mother...together. Hiking up a mountain has to seem like a cakewalk by comparison. There will definitely be some sort of trip report.

Hey Joe,
I do miss Tahoe. This trip is destined to be one for the family history books. A big part of this will be a bonding trip for my brother and I. If it is snowing..or there is too much snow on Tallac, we will just go skiing instead.

My Dad has a great view of Mt Tallac from his living room. I am thinking of bringing a laser pointer with me to see if I can signal him when we reach the top.

I will definitely try to get up to Tahoe City to see your stuff.

Here's the view from my Dad's place (his place is just left of center at the end of the lagoon) - Tallac in the distance

Just pick up one of those aimable signal mirrors at REI. Look through the hole, and point the bright spot at your target. They're supposed to be visible up to 20 miles.
