It is amazing and honorable that people -- including royals -- could choose many other -- safer -- lines of duty, and they choose to be there for us in the sky (on the ground, by the ropes...) in the role of SAR. We, the lesser inclined, are truly greatful!
The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

I think Kate is getting a good one.

Not without precedent. " The Queen, though, insisted that her son be allowed to remain with his ship, meaning Andrew remained on board Invincible to serve as a Sea King helicopter co-pilot, flying on missions that included anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare, Exocet missile decoy, casualty evacuation, transport, and search and air rescue, though he was not involved directly in any combat." Exocet missile decoy consisted of popping up higher than the carrier when a missile was incoming. Once the missile locked on to the chopper, they waited until it was close enough so as to not be able to change targets then down to sea level right smart!
