The father and son, missing since Monday, walked out to Cedar Grove today. They should have an interesting story to tell.

Story Here

That's great news Bob. Everyone is now accounted for, and safe and sound.

Till the next time . . .

Mt. Whitney Area Search and Rescue Ends - Last Two Missing Hikers Found

Two missing hikers, a father and son who had not hiked out on time from the Mount Whitney area after a planned 36-mile cross-country loop, have been found. The two men -- Sina Sadeghi Baghsorkhi, 27, and Abdolreza Sadeghi, 56 -- walked out on park trails in the Cedar Grove area, which is approximately 50 miles away and far from their original planned route. Approximately 70 people assisted with the search and rescue effort. Groups searching for the missing hikers included the National Park Service, Los Angeles County Search and Rescue, Sierra Madre Search and Rescue, Inyo County Sheriff's Office, Inyo County Search and Rescue, and the California National Guard.

This one just amazes me. It is a long long way from Mt Whitney to Cedar Grove, over 13,000 ft. Forrester Pass! There's even an exit to the east at Shepherd Pass that is 12,000 ft. that they had to pass by.

There must be something else to this story. Apparently, a third member of their hike turned back before reachig Meysen Lake, having become "sick," according to another report.

Yes, to reach Cedar Grove over any high pass would have been fairly snowy going. Going over Colby Pass toward Roaring River ranger station would have also taken them to 12,000 feet. An easier and shorter exit would have been South over Cottonwood Pass.
