Hi All,

I was just curious as to if anyone was planning on being in the horseshoe meadows to whitney portal area between the 7th through the 14th. My trip is as follows:
Sept 6- stay at Cottonwood Lakes Campground
Sept 7- hike to Long or High Lake and make camp
Sept 8- hike up New Army to Langley, then back down and stay at lower Soldier Lake
Sept 9- hike to Crabtree Meadows, make camp at Crabtree Lake
Sept 10- Spend a day relaxing by the lakes/ exploring
Sept 11- Hike to guitar lake
Sept 12- Leave early am to catch the sunrise on Whitney, then hike down to Consultation Lake
Sept 13- Hike down to portal and eat a tasty burger

Obviously I am not going at a blistering pace but out to enjoy and take in everything. I was supposed to be hiking with a friend but he injured his back a week ago and is unable to go now. I would love to meet up with anyone while out there so I thought I would check and see if you guys would happen to be in the area during those times. Thanks again to everyone at this page in providing such useful information. Happy Trails.

Dan

Here's my view...

9/7: Stay at Long Lake's west end. It is sheltered unlike High Lake. I would use Army Pass staying at north end of Lake #3.

9/8: I'd just bag Langley on the way in. Using Army Pass really makes more sense. Then head to Lower Soldier or Rock Lake.

9/9: Think about Upper Crabtree Meadow.

9/10: Bag Hale and Young

9/11: Use the Tarns above Guitar.

9/12: Consultation works, Lone Pine Lake work but consider exiting.

9/13: Take a shower first.

Thanks wbtravis for your response. As far as Hale and Young go, are their use trails that are easy to pick up or is it just kind of bushwhack your own trail? And as far as army pass goes, I was thinking of taking it initially, but was hesitant after talking with some people and reading some things on here that made it seem like it wasn't in the best shape and/or hard to pick up? Am i wrong in this assumption?

The route is completely above the tree line. If it looks above your pay grade...head out and explore the Hitchcock Lakes area or head up towards Arctic Lake. I have done the former and it was a lot of fun.
