OP melodyb75 M Joined: Jan 2017 Posts: 3 Delaware	Hi, We will be at Lone Pine this Sunday, April 16th... how far can we drive up to Whitney Portal? If the road is closed, can we drive around the closure or would we get fined or run into any other issues? Is the road clear of snow all the way? Thanks!

Steve C S Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 8,509 Likes: 103 Fresno, CA	From the pictures I've found, it appears that you could be able to drive nearly to the trail head. Here's a picture posted Apr 6. You can see the road is not being cleared, so be careful. When you drive around the road closed sign, you are assuming lots more responsibility for that rental car. So be careful! Fines (citations), if they do any more, are few and far between.
