Here's what I'm planning on wearing - would like some feedback on this list. Day hike. This assumes it won't be actively snowing or raining (if so, I'll need to re-adjust):

1. Medium weight wool socks (+ extra pairs)
2. Bottom: Base layer leggings
3. Snowboarding pants <--- ?? (semi-lined, reasonably warm, waterproof, and have zipper vents). A little heavy, weight-wise, but I don't otherwise have any winter hiking pants.
4. Top: Base layer + long sleeve athletic top over it
5. Snowboarding jacket (waterproof, windproof, hooded which covers nearly my entire face)
6. Sun hat + Beanie
7. glove liners
8. winter snowboarding gloves (+ extra pair in case they get wet)?
9. micro-spikes
10. vented trail running shoes. I've hiked a lot in these and helps my feet not to sweat too much. If lots of snow on the trail, could use waterproof boots instead but hoping I don't have to.
11. hand warmers + toe warmers <-- carry, just in case
12. adjustable trekking poles - esp to provide more stability given I'll be in trail running shoes.

Any feedback on the list? thanks!

Snowboarding pants and jacket? Generally speaking, the first week of October isn’t THAT cold. There may be exceptions. But chances are, you will be able to get away with a whole lot less than you have listed here. It would be best to keep an eye on the weather as the time draws nearer before ultimately choosing your clothing for the climb. But you can always bring more with you just in case.

Thanks! To clarify, the snowboarding jacket is just a shell, no liner.

You're overpacking.

Just for comparison, when I go snowshoeing in 30 degree weather, I wear soft shell pants, a long sleeved baselayer top, gloves, and a thin beanie. I carry a hardshell jacket and a thin down jacket in my pack.

Were you planning on hiking in the snowboarding pants? I would DEFINITELY drop them. Far too hot and bulky. Replace with some sort of nylon pants. Go to Costco, they usually have them for no more than $30 depending on season. I would probably ditch the snowboarding gloves as well. You can hike with your liner gloves and shove your hands in your pockets at the summit.

BTW, I will be going up Oct. 4th as a dayhike.

Thanks, yes, I've decided to ditch the snowboarding pants and just use a set of shell pants over 1-2 bottom base layers. Also will ditch the heavy gloves, maybe just liner and medium weight.
