I'm heading up the MR route this weekend and can't decide if I should wear mountaineering boots or if I can get away with Asolo Fugitives. I'd prefer the latter, but don't want to be stuck with a bad choice on the steep north face section. Any recommendations?

I think mountaineering boots would be better than these Asolo Fugitives:

But, if you put on enough snow seal and have good gaiters, they would work, but your feet will likely be wet at the end of the day.

Thanks Steve, I was worried about the rigidity of boot, or lack thereof, and how'd they'd handle toe kicking on a steep face. Seems like the weather has warmed up this week so the snow might be more slushy than icey, which will hopefully make it a non-issue. They have a goretex liner so I'm slightly less concerned about how they'll fare in snow. We'll see how it goes this weekend whistle

I have a question along the lines of boots also. I have a pair of Lowa Mid hikers, will the Grivel G10's work on them? They seem to work okay when I strap them on, but my wife wouldn't let me walk around with them on the hardwood floors.

SierraTransplant: Even with warm weather, the slushy snow freezes solid at night. So early mornings it is icy. And after the snow shadow hits the chute, it can begin to harden. Beware!

Rodney51: Take them outside and aerate the turf. grin
