Diamox
But the best way to prevent altitude sickness is to go to elevation, 10,000 or more feet as many times as you can before Whitney.
If you're from SoCal, that means Baldy, San Jacinto and San Gorgornio. There are plenty of threads on this site, just do a search for diamox, acclimate, etc.
Besides, diamox can actually make you feel a bit strange, depending on the person.

It's also a pill that has some no so nice side effects. There is no panacea to the effect of elevation. I use it and still have problem under certain self induced circumstances.

The use of this drug should not be entered into lightly.
