Any ideas on what the trail conditions will be like (ascent via the main trail vs going up the chute)? We are doing a two day trip, first day up to Trail Camp, then the next morning the rest of the hike. This will be my first time on the mountain, I do have lots of snowshoe / AV training and experience from 2 years I spent in SAR (some self arrest training as well) but I don't own an axe or spikes. I thought with the poor rain this year the main trail would be open, but as of now I'm not sure. Does anyone know if I should have micro spikes / ice axe for this time frame? I don't plan to do anything that puts me at an elevated level of risk, but really don't want to miss an oportunity to make it to the top because I was under prepared.

It is too soon to know for sure, but by June 20, the switchbacks should be in full use. The snow that fell came later this year, so it is not melting out as quickly as last.

People were using the switchbacks by this time last year.
