Nipping at the heels of the WP water contamination, recreation.gov notes that the big pine creek campgrounds are being offered at a reduced rate due to contam.

I spoke with a person at the ESIVC and she hadn't heard that.

No one wants to pick up the phone at the White Mountain Ranger District.

Anyone have any confirmed reports of water contamination in the Big Pine Creek area?

I don't see where it says anything about water contamination on the reservation site. The water outage could be caused by system damage from the record snowmelt runoff or some other issue. Let's keep checking into this though.

Stumbled onto an interesting database for Inyo drinking water systems.

Here's the Whitney Portal violation details. The first violation was found on Aug 1 and second test was Aug 15. Nothing since then.

The wording in the URL is sure curious.

Ah, I did specifically ask about BPC and the person at the ESIAVC said that there WAS water. The wording just mentions that water isn't available. However the wording is fairly similar to the WPC warning on the site.

Hmm. I wonder.

Does anyone know if the Big Pine Creek system was damaged prior to this season?

I've been up the North Fork of Big Pine Creek 3 times this season, and have heard nothing about contamination or damage there. No warnings issued about it from the White Mountain Ranger Station.

Still difficult stream crossing on the South Fork of BP Creek, but that's normal for that one.
