I'll be going up on Fri June 1- anyone know if Microspikes and ice ax will be sufficient in the chute? Snow was forecast for this weekend- I wonder if it did snow up there.

In a word...no.

Microspikes are for trail walking. Crampons are for climbing and where there is exposure.

I carried and used Microspikes the past two winters. They are wonderful when used properly but the will not give sufficient bite on that slope. The difference in weight between Microspikes and aluminum crampons, which is what can be rent at Elevation in Lone Pine, is minimal.

Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess.
