Finally my preps are falling into place and I may be able to bike during the first wk of October. So my q. is the Independence - Onion V road open in the first wk of October? Just want to make sure before I buy the tkts. How are the snow conditions in OV in early October? Are the camp sites still open in early october?

It depends, to a certain degree, on whether there is early snow-fall and/or rock-fall. It can snow just about any time after the middle of September...and it has snowed on Labor Day weekend a couple of times.

The campgrounds usual close at the end of September.

Thanks! Well if it is open I will try or else will do just local bike trips in Pasadena area and may be a hike up to Mt. Baldy. Looking at the trend in mid west, looks like it will be an early and possibly long winter just like last year. Its already fall temps (except this week) and looking forward to the snow!
