The Inyo Nation Forest is getting ready for road closures:

Latest weather models indicate up to a foot of snow @12,000 and above this weekend.

There are roads at 12,000?

Well, one does come to mind.

I guess you are trying to be funny. Well...Bishop Pass trail is almost a road...LOL.

Perhaps to help clarify for those who don't understand, here is the weather forecast for the town of Mammoth Lakes, which has lots of roads:

For those who only think in terms of Mt. Whitney:

Up to a foot of snow on the high passes, but several inches at lower elevations. Ok?

Bob, I think everyone is a bit giddy with the predictions of significant snow. Let's hope it comes through!

Actually I was serious, if a little roundabout wondering whether much less than a foot ( presumable effect at lower elevations)
is cause for a road closure.

Ah! Fall colors, road closures... It's that time of year when I officially let my thoughts turn from summer activities to winter snowsports!

Roads at 12,000 feet above sea level . . . first and foremost, the road to just below the summit of Mt. Evans in Colorado -- the highest paved road in North America. Go here .

This was the White Mountain Road a little past the Patriarch Grove in 2010. Shows what happens when people drive to those places in October without paying attention to the weather forecasts. That car got trapped in the first snowfall. The picture was taken in March.
