Mt Whitney Zone
firstly, thank you everyone for providing great details of information about mt. Whitey. It really helped me so far to layout my trip. I have couple more questions on weather condition in June.

I got day use permit for mid June (18 June). After reading earlier topics, I can assume this year will be of heavy snow until start July. How safe it will be if I plan hike in this scenario with micro pikes or crampons?

Is worth giving shot as solo hiker or join any group who hiking on same day?

It would be great if I can tag along any group for hike. please let me know if anyone have spot in their group.

Thank you!!
In mid-June, there will still be a lot of snow, and I would just plan on using crampons. The "chute" (slope west of the 99 switchbacks) will be the route everyone is using, and crampons and ice axe are what you need for that.

Since there will be so much snow to cover, you will need a super early start to day hike it.

As for joining another group, most people don't invite people from on a forum. But you will be joining many others doing the same thing, so you will not be alone.
Thank you so much. I am looking forward to hiking!!!
