What is the exact location of the night box? I think the person I talked to for the wilderness permit said that it's located a quarter mile east of the Eastern Sierra Visitor Center on the 136 at a gazebo. I tried looking on google maps but didn't see it, so I guess it's not a permanent thing. Can anyone confirm if this description is correct?

When you turn onto 136, just past the driveway to the Visitor Center is the kiosk (you can see it Google Earth just past the driveway, and right on the side of the road). The first time I found it was after dark, and I didn't have any issues. I think they might include some pictures on their website/form that show the location, but I can't swear to that as it's been a couple of years!

Thanks! The way it was described made it seem farther away.

I think the "quarter mile" is distance from the 395.

Here's the Google street view of the kiosk (and drop box), and the ESIVC where you pick up the permits.

Yep! The quarter mile is the distance eastward from US395 on CA136. I've used it numerous times.

Last time I used it, the prior people who opened it didn't even bother to lock it all the way. Make sure to shut it.

Your permit should be in an orange office envelope. Sign your permit with the pens in the dropbox, take the contents, and leave the envelope.

Wag bags should be in a receptacle below the lock box.
