We are looking to exchange one or two Whitney permits for a ride from Lone Pine to the Portal and back. The two of us are flying in to Lone Pine, and will have mountain bikes, but really don't want to have to preface a nine-hour hike with a two-hour ride in the dark. If you stay the night at Whitney Hostel, you might hook up with others who might be leaving in the wee morning hours for the Portal.

Or better yet, hitch a ride to the portal in the afternoon, and spend the night camping in the walk-in backpacker campground.
