Hello,

Can anyone who recently made the climb via Whitney Trail get me up to speed on the water crossing levels this year? We are prepared with Wp boots, but want to understand the difficulty and depth of water this time of year considering the lower snowfall levels this past winter.
Thanks

Not an issue. Plus if you take the old trail up from the end of the parking lot you avoid Carillon and North Fork creek crossings.

We completed the Hike on August 4th. We were prepared with Plastic knee high shoe covers, because some of us didn't have tested water proof shoes. But we didn't use the Shoe covers and were all fine despite having to cross the streams. Stream crossings and sometime water on trails are well prepared with Logs and Stones - that keep you dry. But hiking poles are must in all these and other situations to help you balance while crossing streams. Hope this helps...

We summited yesterday (8/6) and had to negotiate several water crossings. I never had to put my foot in more than a quarter inch of water.

There is always the possibility of slipping and falling into the water (as mentioned), so be prepared for that. Be careful and you should be fine.

Note that when we were coming down the water through the switchbacks was flowing well. Some filled up with water there. I avoided it by walking on rocks.

Also, you cross no snow/ice unless you are wanting to (go off trail).
