Coming up this weekend? Details in the LA Times.

"A moonbow, also called a lunar rainbow, occurs, oddly enough, at night. The Yosemite National Park website says an optimal view is the result of "clear skies, enough water in Yosemite Fall to create sufficient mist, dark skies, bright moonlight not blocked by the surrounding mountains, and the correct rainbow geometry.""

Clear skies? I have seen this phenomenon in the desert. It was bright nearly full mooon. There were a few separate and isolated clouds - dark with silver linings. The moonlight shining through the silver lined cloud cast a moonbow on the desert floor. I will never forget the sight. I have only talked to one other person who has seen this rare sight. He also advised similar clear skies and dark silver lined clouds on a near full moon night.
