Well, my back went South a couple of weeks back and after a few days of Vicoden, Naproxen and a muscle relaxent, Flexeril, I felt good enough to take a trip up San Jacinto. My back must be better as my buddy DJ, my son Cy and I hiked the Marion Mtn Trail on Saturday 6-11. As most of you know, Marion Mtn is the steepest route to the summit with a distance of app 5.5 miles to the summit and an elevation gain of 4800 feet. No world records, took 3.75 up and 2.75 down. My son wanted to run down, but after the WWW marathon last month, I decided no more running for me. I hadn't been above 10,000 ft since last fall and I felt the altitude a bit when we passed about 10,200 feet. The summit was beautiful with forever views. Very little snow on the trail, but the trail above Little Round Valley is pretty beat up from the Winter storms, so you need to take your time to find the trail. This is a great hike now because the waterfalls are flowing really well and there are several right now.
Overall a great Mt Whitney preparation hike.

I LIKE it! Getting the "Snickers & dancing moves" ready to hopefully summit with you in July!

HUGS!

Barb, these are the dance moves I picked, but Gary gave me an Emphatic... NO! Hmmmm, can't imagine why. :-)

Can Gary & Joe actually do this???

Maybe Gary's not a Mary J Blige fan. Gotta pick something to compete with those dancing girls from last year.

Whitney Dance Party

And, my stepson Kaleb just me he wants to hike Baldy on Saturday............Hope my feet can take this.

And of course Whitney on July 2 through 5th before you Gary and Bri take me up that mountain AGAIN in mid July! If I'm not in shape now, I will be.......or.........

Joe... really? Gary doesn't wanna bust out those dance moves with ya? I'm thinking that would be HIGH quality entertainment!!! lol

Com'on Gary... it'll be fun... ;-)

QS, thank you for the Mt. San Jacinto (MSJ) trip report. My friends and I will be at the Palm Springs Aerial Tram Station bright and early on July 3rd for the first tram up to start our hike to the summit of MSJ. Hope we see you at the Tram bright and early that morning too.

Compromise: Jivin' Joe can bust his moves with my wife and daughter on the summit while I capture it on video. Someone has to, right? Then, after Joe has thrown his back out at 14,505', we'll nurse him back down to the Portal for that burger . . .

Umm... I would have to say NO to that one also- but I am sure there is a song that we can compromise on and get Gary to "bust a move" on the summit. I'm in if we can find the right song!

Joe I have no doubt you will be all ready to hike Whitney when we get there! Looking forward to it.

Okay, okay I give.....how about 2Pac "California Love". Now that's a hot one. If not, check this. I can see Gary now:

Gary and Joe??? Bri? Barb? This is How we Do it

Maybe we should have a vote.....lol

Okay Barb....you pick. Just no macarena or Boot Scoot. I was uncomfortable watching those videos :-)

And Barb.....it's up to us. Where are all the people who said they would dance on the summit this year? Geeeez, but on the other hand, with the snow, just hope we can get to the summit last year. I was comparing photos of Mt Whitney last year to photos from this year, all from the 395, and BIG difference. Not that Steve has nothing to do, but if we could see images from the Whitney Cam from last year at this time, think we would all be surprised.

Again Barb......your turn ;-)

Wazzu....that's a GREAT Choice! Moves are easy and if you're old enough to remember when the movie came out......ahhhhh such memories (I saw the movie and the play, both in Hollywood), it would be fun :-)

I'm not a "Gleek" and have never watched Glee, but they were the only ones on Youtube with both the music and a dance. So, though I feel a bit blasphemous because I love the original, here's the TW from Glee.

Time Warp - Glee Cast

Now, back to the memories........

Here's the original without a dance.

Original Time Warp

I've had the song in my head since I posted....I might have to break out and do the dance at work...what a way to get the weekend started.

If the Time Warp is selected, appropriate attire should be worn...I think I still have some of garments I wore at waaaaaaaay too many midnight viewings, many, many years ago.

Can I fit!!!! Just kidding. Maybe you should meet us at the Portal and share with the girls.

Here's one with no dance moves. Someone would have to teach, choreograph.

California Love 2Pac

I do like Time Warp though. Much more appropriate than most of the songs from Rocky Horror.

BTW....let's "Toast".

LMAO... I"ll just meet all y'all at the Portal with some beer... I believe I owe at least one of you a bottle...

There does need to be photographic or videographer evidence of the dancing though....

We'll be on Baldy 7:30 AM. Just look for the gray haired guy and two young men (kids) telling him to keep up.
:-)
Wazzu will be there too

I did this hike / trail on the exact same day too ! How funny !
Posted By: quillansculpture Re: San Jacinto 6-11 - 06/19/11 05:02 AM
margcheng, what time did you summit? There were lots of people at the summit, in fact the most I've ever seen.
You're doing the MR on July 4th weekend, right? I'll be at the Portal (and Hostel) the entire weekend and leaving the 5th. Same places, same times......hmmm
Hope you have a fun time on the MR.
Posted By: margcheng1234 Re: San Jacinto 6-11 - 06/19/11 01:30 PM
Yes there was quite a party on the summit. We must have arrived some time after 3pm - I don't really remember. It was a very enjoyable hike though ! I'm planning to do it again soon

If you'll be at the Portal all the weekend we'll pop by and say hi ! After a successful summit that is ... smile
