My day permit is for Oct. 7th. My partner is hoping to make it, but she sustained an injury, so I'm hoping I won't be alone on the trail for my first time. Anyone out there going on Friday, Oct. 7th? I/we will be leaving from the Whitney Portal around 4:00 A.M. I've been hiking Mt. Baldy almost every week, did San Jacinto a week ago, and will do Gorgonio about a week before I leave. I'm not the hare, but not the tortoise either.
That might work for me. I've missed the whole season doing a home remodel, but I'm pulling my boots on Saturday to do a 20 miler up San J. The weekend following that I'm leading scouts up Marion Mountain to the San J summit. I won't be in my best shape, but that hasn't stopped me before. I'll keep you posted. Right now, it's anyones guess. She still may go. When I purchased our day passes, there were about 50 still available for day hikes, in case you want to do it, even if she goes.
My friend is unbelievable and has recuperated fully. She kicked my butt on Gorgonio last Thursday, so she's 100% on for Whitney.
Good for your friend! I will be hiking on the 7th (i hope, if I can get a permit, I am hoping that the snow scares a few away). Ill be doing the MR starting at 3 or 4, maybe I'll see you!

Hey sounds great. I'll be up at the portal Thursday around noon. You may see me wandering around; I think I'll be wearing my bright red jacket and jeans. Would be nice to have some company on Friday, when it's dark. I think we are leaving at 3:00 as well.

Shhhh dont tell anyone but my theory is that the snow will come and be gone by thurs night and we will have an awesome day on friday, dont tell anyone! I get to whitney portal tomorrow, if anyone is around, im the tall blonde dude named ben.
I brought all of my winter climbing goodies but am on the fence about carrying the snowshoes, we'll see how much it snows :0)
