Sounds like a cool trip. Steve. Looking forward to more detail.
Was there snow higher up? Could you get a look at Telescope also as to what the conditions were?

Steve...I am fairly certain I know who some of these hikers are...can you please list their names in order under the photo so I can match names with faces.

Thank you, Steve, for adding everyone's name under the photo. I saw "some guy" on Facebook...that's Bob Rockwell the silver fox if I remember his name correctly. I didn't know who catpappy was, I wasn't sure if he was Gary, now I know the difference. I recognized Wazzu (Barbara), I recognized you and I thought the other girl must be Carol, Gary mentioned Carol on Facebook. When it came to Wagga I wasn't sure if that was him or if Joe (QS) had grown facial hair.

I guess Joe (QS) did not make the trip. On Facebook I thought he said he was going to join Gary, I must be dreaming again.

It's good seeing all of you. You all look so health and happy. What a wonderful reunion it must have been for all you in Death Valley.

Thank you for sharing.

Hey Steve, why are words turning Orange and have double underlines under the word? I see that on some of my posts and I didn't make the words Orange or double underline them, nor single underline either.

any snow up there? Last time I was up there in late March, snow began on the parking lot next to the kilns. I may stop there on my way to Whitney and go up to Rogers Peak again.

Posted By: Bulldog34 Re: Death Valley - Wildrose Peak - 03/25/13 12:17 AM
No snow on Wildrose. Rogers had some, Telescope still pretty white up top. Great day had by all (the nights at the campground were another matter altogether, unless you enjoy gales). It was a pleasure having Bob, Steve, wagga, wazzu and Carol join us!

John and I are in Vegas now and return to Atlanta tomorrow. I'll load some additional photos once I've had a chance to settle down a bit. Just enjoyed my first shower in a week and looking forward to a real bed tonight!

We had 30mph winds all day on Friday & I had been wondering if you folks were experiencing the sam thing.
Posted By: wazzu Re: Death Valley - Wildrose Peak - 03/25/13 03:33 AM
Bee,

I blame Steve C & Wagga for bringing the hurricane force winds into the DV park.

All was calm on Thurs afternoon when I arrived. About 2 hours after Steve & Wagga roll in Thurs evening, the winds starts. It was bad on Thurs night, made for a chilly day on Wild Rose and a even worse night on Friday. The wind was so bad, the nylon zipper on my palace tent blew apart around 3am. I rolled the door back and tried to get some sleep with tent wide open and sleeping bag pulled over my head. The wind did calm down a little after the sun came up on Sat morning. But still blowing as Steve & Waggga packed up for a Sat morning departure.

By the time we got to the top of the 1st Butte on Sat, a little before noon, the wind had really calmed down. Steve & Wagga should have been out of the park about then. I blame the wind on Steve's new Volt. wink

Other than the wind for 36 hours, it was a great time in Death Valley. And a wonderful hike up Wild Rose.

Bob R has posted more photos here.

I'm still unpacking and getting photos downloaded, but wanted to say thanks to Bulldog, catpappy, Bob R, Steve, & wagga for a great weekend!!!!

Wazzzzuuuuu,

Thank you for the re-direct to Bob's pictures. What do you think the temps were on Friday? It is such a crapshoot this time of year anywhere you go confused (especially interesting was that it was projected to be 80F beeefore the winds kicked up)So sorry that your palace did not win the war of the winds(!) Did everyone have tents, or did some people use bivvys (my lazy choice of abode)

Glad you had fun smile whilst I was working frown

Bee,

I think wagga used a bivy. Steve C & Bob R slept in their respective vehicles, everyone else in a tent.

When the wind would take a break, the temps in the valley were comfortable. On Thurs afternoon when I arrived, it was warm, maybe 85. It was still a little chilly on the top of Wild Rose, maybe in the 60's even when there was no wind on Friday.

Sat was perfect. Very little wind and maybe mid-70's during the day. And the best part, NO WIND on Sat night into Sun morning.

Yeah, it sucks when work gets in the way of enjoying life!

Lynn-a-roo, I sure don't see the underlines, except when I write a post, my software puts wavy underlines under words it thinks are misspelled. If you see other words in posts that look different, wagga's virus idea is the only thing I would think could be happening.

Wagga and Steve ...thank you for the heads-up and possible fix link that Wagga sent to me. I'm running a virus scan on my computer now...I'll apply the fix too just to make sure all is good. I'm using my Kindle now.

Wazzu...thank you for your trip report. Your cheeks look rosey from the winds. Looks like you all had a good time. Thank you for the link to Bob's photos too....loved seeing all the fun and the Amnesia I.P.A. -- let me guess..Waaga brought the I.P.A. Am I right?

Also ...happy to see you have a hiking buddy...Carol...it's always good to hike with a pal.

And the post-summit beer . . .

We saw Superman in Steve's photo above. I guess that inspired him to emulate Spider-Man . . .

The rest of the photos are here . No snappy captions yet, but they're coming.

Gary, if you need a snappy caption for those shots of you and John wearing your school hats, how about "42-10"?
