What kind of shoes do most people end up using in early June? I usually hike in trail runners. I have gor-tex boots but I'm not a big fan of boots in general and waterproof boots usually make my feet sweat too much.

Try sandals or barefoot. My Irish friends hike all year in sandals - in Ireland.

Another friend, a 100 pound lady, backpacks barefoot for the entire hiking season, from now until October. She carries flip-flops for rocky or ice terrain. Locals call her "Littlefoot", because of the small foot-prints she leaves.

When I went over Kersarage Pass last year, there was a guy hiking up barefoot.

I don't think I'd ever do that, but if it works for them it's their feet. smile
