Mt Whitney Zone Forums WhitneyZone Throw Back Shoes

I am going with a group of four up Whitney on Aug 2. I understand that the streams are too deep to cross without wading. Dragging a pair of wet tennis shoes to the top and back would not be pleasant because of the weight. I am thinking about aqua socks from Academy Sport. Even they have significant weight.

Are the stream crossings sufficiently narrow that one person could cross the stream and throw the aqua socks back across the stream for the next person?

Is this a reasonable thing to do so we only have one pair and not four pair to carry to Trail Camp? How many time will we have to cross?

I have been up Whitney many times, but not in summer since 2010. Yes, you could toss the shoes across the stream. I think I read that there were two places where you would have to wade. Stream crossings may not be a problem when you go on August 2. You could probably cross barefoot. BTW, I would have posted this under “General Discussion.” Good luck. Have fun.
