Wish me luck, I'm going for it next week. (well... I've just made hotel reservations for the two nights of acclimatization before getting to Lone Pine that it's too late to get refunds if I back out, so I'm committed that far at least smile )

Good luck!

I'm also planning a two-day trip up Tyndall via Shepherd's Pass weekend after next. Hoping some of that lingering snow near the top of the pass will melt out by then. smirk

Can anyone point me to a gpx track that includes the correct place to cross the rib and attain the summit ridge while climbing Tyndall's north rib? I've found several tracks of people who did the north rib, but many of them note that they hit the wrong notch and ended up on some unpleasant Class 4 terrain that I'd just as soon avoid.

Everything seems straightforward except this one bit, and while I've read enough maps and descriptions that I think we'll be fine without GPS, it would be nice to be able to check the GPS to confirm. First time on Tyndall and still relatively new to off-trail hiking, so over-preparing as best I can. smile

If you goto this link: https://caltopo.com/m/PRQL and check the track labeled "2016-09-24 - Day 3", it shows the route we took up the north rib including where we crossed over the rib and hit the easy class 3 chute to the top of the ridge line. I DO NOT recommend following our route down the backside of tyndall. Ended up being a nasty talus hop all the way down to lake 11959.
